110th Founder's Day Celebration Gala

Dear Friends of The Piney Woods School:

On behalf of The Piney Woods School, I would like to thank you for considering becoming a sponsor for our 110th Founder’s Day Celebration Gala. The Piney Woods School has a storied history. In 1909, Dr. Laurence C. Jones made his way to rural Rankin county to build a school, to combat the high illiteracy rates here. With a $1.65, a bible, and a desire to educate, Dr. Jones became the stuff of legends. The struggles and obstacles he faced in the beginning were difficult. However, he knew if he was persistent and determined, the true spirit of learning would take root.

Today, Piney Woods still operates on those tenets. We are empowering our young people for twenty-first century leadership. We aim to produce next level scholars who are curious, creative and entrepreneurial. While Dr. Jones’s philosophy is still evident in our mission, we understand that now technology, global consciousness, and community engagement must be added to the equation. Our project learning curriculum teaches our students how to think critically and develop research approaches. Our students study the economic patterns of local businesses, evaluate architectural designs, and study the implementation of solar panels on existing campus buildings.

For the dynamic work of Piney Woods to continue, we need the help of partners like you. Your partnership allows us to continue our efforts of “changing the world, one student at a time.” Your willingness to partner with The Piney Woods School provides an opportunity for us to continue graduating our students and sending them out into the world prepared. With a 100 percent graduation rate and 96 percent of our students being accepted to college, Piney Woods has proven its ability to educate and prepare students for bright futures. Your partnership allows us to enhance our classrooms, so our students continue to be on the cutting edge of educational advancement. Your partnership allows us to continue the mission Dr. Jones started back in 1909. For 110 years, Piney Woods has been a thread woven into the fabric of not only Mississippi history, but our nation’s history.
