$2,864 towards $5,000

In honor of my 20-year class reunion, I am raising money to provide scholarships to graduating seniors at the Piney Woods School. The school, a historically African-American boarding school located 20 miles west of Jackson, MS, was founded by Dr. Laurence C. Jones in 1909. Over the course of the school's nearly 110-year history, it has educated thousands of students from almost every U.S. state, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and several African countries. Committed to nurturing the head, heart and hands of children, The Piney Woods School sends nearly 99% of its graduates to college with the remaining percentage enrolling in the United States Military.

I learned so much at Piney Woods, much of which I see exemplified in my day-to-day life. But what I received the most from my time at Piney Woods were the friendships. These relationships are unparalleled. Friends who answer the phone at 3 in the morning to listen to you cry. Friends who drive cross country to watch you graduate. Friends in almost every major US city who, to this day, let you sleep in their spare room if your're passing through town. Words cannot adequately describe the experience, but each child who matriculates through the school is blessed to have the experience.

So, while I won't ask for a specific dollar amount, I will ask that you contribute in a way to help me reach my goal and make a difference in the lives of tomorrow's leaders.
